President’s Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP-PPP) in collaboration with the School of Business and Management ITB (SBM ITB) invites academicians and practitioners to participate in The 2nd International Workshop on Systems Modelling: System Analysis and Modelling for Green Economy.

WORKSHOP THEME

The main theme of this workshop is System Analysis and Modelling for Green Economy . The research topics that will be discussed in this workshop deals with the national strategic policy, such as:

1. National Resource (fossil fuels, fish, water, forest, soil, etc) Efficiency and Development

2. Energy production (combustion) and emissions reduction

3. Pollution

4. Climate change mitigation and adaptation

5. Renewable energy systems

6. Socio-economic and environmental assessment of bio-energy systems

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this workshop can be described as follows:

1. Establishing the communication and cooperation among researchers, practitioners in system modelling and simulation especially in green economy area, both domestically and overseas.

2. Documenting research finding, consultation projects especially in green economy area that has been carried out by researchers from all over Indonesia and the world, especially by using system modelling and simulation for developing the policies.

3. Mapping the research finding and consultation projects especially in green economy area that can be implemented by decision makers in government.

MAIN SPEAKER

Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat

Director, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Austria

IIASA is an international research organization that conducts policy-oriented research into problems that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline. Located in Austria near Vienna, IIASA is sponsored by its National Member Organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. IIASA’s research investigates the critical issues of global environmental, economic, technological, and social change that we face in the twenty-first century. The researchers, some 200 mathematicians, social scientists, natural scientists, economists, and engineers, develop assessment and decision-support methodologies, global databases, and analytical tools to study the issues. IIASA concentrates its research efforts within three core research themes: (1) Energy and Climate Change; (2) Food and Water; and (3) Poverty and Equity.

Professor, Earth System Science and Climate Change Group, Wageningen University and Research Centre, the Netherlands

As full professor and chair, He is responsible for a group of about 70 scientists including 25 PhD students. Earth System Science and Climate Change (ESS CC) aimed to advance our understanding of the Earth and Climate System as a complex and holistic system, with specific inclusion of the anthropogenic and human components. ESS CC develops innovative methods and tools (both observational and modelling), with a common aim to advance scientific understanding, as well as to support policies and strategic decision making processes in the field of climate, water and the environment. The average yearly budget of the group was ?7 million, with 65% of the income originated through competitive (inter)national grants, from sources such as the Dutch Science Foundation and the EU Framework Programmes. The ESS CC group was evaluated as ?excellent? in two consecutive evaluation rounds by independent international review committees in 2007 and 2010.

Chair and Director, Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and Arts, Institute for Integrated Research on Wadden Sea Region (KNAW-Wadden Academy)

The KNAW-Wadden Academy is a new type of academic institute established to promote, facilitate, coordinate, and to conduct trans-disciplinary and integrated research at a regional scale of the Earth system. It involves climate, geology, ecology, water, spatial planning, economy and cultural history. The leading assumption behind establishing a new type of institute was that only integrated and trans-disciplinary approaches addressing the system in a holistic way will provide the necessary answers for the future development of the three-lateral Wadden regions. The area faces a key challenge of sustainable development: how to combine the economic functions (e.g., fisheries, harbors/transport, energy, tourism) with the preservation of unique natural values (Wadden inter-tidal system recently gained UNESCO heritage status), in the context of changing exogenous drivers (climate change/sea level rise, EU directives, globalization).

REGISTRATION

Interested participants can register themselves by giving name and contact number via email to dhanan@sbm-itb.ac.id or via text message to +62817215012.
